TRASH & RECYCLING

In Unincorporated Seminole County – Garbage, recycling, yard waste collection fees, and landfill disposal charges are billed to residents as a non-ad valorem assessment on the tax roll. (The following information was pulled from the seminolecountyfl.gov website.)

Service within our Knollwood community includes two household waste pickups weekly along with one yard waste and recycling collection. All materials must be curbside by 6:00 A.M.

Any concerns regarding haulers or service problems are handled through the Seminole County Solid Waste Division.  If you experienced a missed pickup, please call their Customer Service Department(407) 665-2260  Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

HOUSEHOLD WASTE
- Weekly Pickup Tuesday & Friday
An unlimited amount of household garbage may be placed curbside for collection in garbage cans or bags. Cans must have lids and handles, and must not exceed 50 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight. Residents must provide their own garbage cans — Solid Waste Management does not distribute cans.  Never mix garbage with yard waste or hazardous materials.

YARD WASTE - Weekly Pickup Wednesday
Yard waste must be contained in a trash can or bag or tied in a bundle.  Each can, bag, or bundle must not exceed 50 gallons in capacity or 50 pounds in weight.  Bundles should not exceed 4 feet in length. Branches, limbs, or cuttings should not exceed 4 inches in diameter.  Please cut larger branches.  A maximum of fifteen (15) bags and/or tied bundles will be collected by contractors during regular yard waste collection.

Christmas trees are collected each Wednesday after Christmas Day through the end of January.

RECYCLING - Weekly Pickup Friday
Do NOT bag your recyclables, leave loose in your bin.  Free recycling bins are provided by Seminole County.  Order them here: Recycling bin request form  All recycling must fit inside the provided bin, including flattened cardboard.

LARGE ITEMS
Large items like furniture or appliances can be picked up upon request for a fee. Please complete a Bulk Item Pickup Request Form


WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED?

  • Paper and Cardboard (flattened)
    Examples: pasteboard (such as cereal boxes), brown paper bags, pizza boxes, corrugated cardboard, newspaper, magazines, office paper
  • Aluminum, steel and tin cans (rinsed and clean)
    Examples: beer and soda cans, soup cans (without labels)
  • Plastic containers #1-7
    Examples: water bottles, milk jugs, berry containers (rinsed and clean, throw out lids and caps).  Look at number inside recycling icon ♻️ on the bottom of your container.
  • Glass containers (rinsed and clean)
    Examples: glass bottles, pasta sauce jars


WHAT CAN’T BE RECYCLED IN OUR RECYCLING BINS?

  • Glass — windows and other construction debris 
    These should be brought to the Seminole County Landfill.
  • Plastic bags, deflated bubble wrap, and other plastic wrap 
    They are accepted for recycling at most grocery stores (Publix, Winn Dixie, etc.)
  • Styrofoam
    Examples: Take out containers (if rinsed and clean they are accepted at Publix and other grocery stores)
  • Wax-lined paper cups and plates
    Examples: takeout coffee cups
  • Containers of Household Hazardous Waste
    Examples: Metal, plastic or glass containers that have held oil, fuel, pesticides, herbicides, paints, solvents, anti-freeze, pool or lawn chemicals, or any hazardous waste. Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is free for all Seminole County residents. These are not picked up curbside. Please bring to the Central Transfer Station or Seminole County Landfill

  • Recycling - electronics, Lithium-ion batteries (found in phones and electronics)
  • Household hazardous waste – chemicals, paint, gasoline, etc.
  • Clean corrugated cardboard
  • Tires (limit of 4)

  • Used motor oil
  • Used oil filters
  • Lead acid batteries
  • Propane tanks
  • Fire extinguishers
